The Utah based shop has continued to assist women in all of their fashion needs since 2011. This new location is unlike any of the others. The interior design is unique and special. It is inspired by Rio de Janeiro, where the founder Fernanda is from. You definitely don't want to miss the beautifully tiled floor, velvet walls, and even the touch screen mirrors in the dressing rooms. Most importantly you don't want to miss out on the latest trends and the celebration taking place this weekend. City Creek's Bohme will be having their Grand Opening on Saturday, June 22nd. | Friends realize dream in décor store - Woodstock Independent Posted: 12 Jun 2019 06:32 AM PDT Anyone who has been in the market for furniture or home décor knows the appeal of being able to head to one location and shop in a variety of stores. With the opening of a retail outlet for By Michelle Custom Furniture and Design and the 365 Vintage Market and Boutique in January, shoppers in Woodstock and the surrounding area have yet another spot to explore while out treasure hunting. Tracking down the store's location adds to the thrill of the hunt. Situated in a 2,600-square-foot garage space behind Jack Franks' office at 1193 S. Eastwood Drive, the storefront is easy to miss from the road. A turn east onto Wanda Lane from Eastwood Drive, or a turn north onto Martha Lane from Lake Avenue, will take the driver right up to the entrance next to the two overhead garages – one for retail display and one for workspace. Inside, a visitor quickly forgets she is in a garage. Owners Michelle Leber of Woodstock and Carrie Nordbrock of Wonder Lake have transformed the interior with strings of twinkling overhead lights and curtained backdrops that highlight staged vignettes of repurposed furniture; retro items scored on field trips in "Nick" the pickup truck; new décor, jewelry, and purses; along with Nordbrock's handmade items. Childhood friends Leber, a retired Jazzercise instructor, had "always dabbled in painting" furniture. Four years ago, with husband Rick's encouragement, she began to paint furniture in earnest in the family garage. Leber provides full service: first repairing her furniture pieces, then painting them using a sprayer, which she said gives "a good finish." While she sometimes finds old furniture to work on at estate or barn sales, 90 percent of her business is custom work for clients who have found her on Facebook or via word-of-mouth. Between 2005 and 2010, Nordbrock owned U Got Purse Onality in Woodstock. The store fell victim to the souring economy, but Nordbrock took note of what happened when she liquidated her inventory. Customers wanted to buy the display pieces that she had refinished. Like Leber, she took over the family garage to repurpose furniture, working on a smaller scale than Leber. She also creates pillows from painter's drop cloths, stenciling her own designs, as well as stenciling signs and T-shirts. As her work outgrew the garage, she and husband Kevin agreed that it was time to "move and grow." Many little girls plan out a lifetime with their best friends. "We'll live next door to each other, our kids will play together," Nordbrock said, "we'll open a store together, and we'll always be best friends." For Leber and Nordbrock, the dream came true. A 'lived-in' style The two met as first-graders at J.C. Bush Elementary School in Johnsburg. They now live in next-door communities, they attend the same church, their husbands are friends, and their daughters Carlie (Nordbrock) and Dee (Leber) are best friends. "We are more like sisters than not," Nordbrock said. Deciding to share a space where they both could work and sell the items they created was a natural. "This fell together really easily," Leber said. Having one garage with an exhaust fan gives them space for the dirty work of sanding and painting. They curtained off the other garage so that customers could shop. The advantage for the two friends is that their work is no longer attached to their homes. "We can walk away from it," Nordbrock said. The two describe their style as "lived-in," with a farmhouse or barn look. They strive to create a comfortable, friendly atmosphere where customers can help themselves to a cup of coffee. Affordability is a priority. Most people can't finance a redo of an entire kitchen, Leber said. Nordbrock credited Leber, who is completing a course in interior design, with having an eye for a piece's versatility. Creatively switching the color and making necessary repairs gives old furniture new life. That appeals particularly to millennials who might not exhibit a shred of interest in grandma's antique dining room table, but who might be thrilled to have the updated version within a budget. Leber and Nordbrock emphasize customer service. They will pick up furniture pieces for customers and deliver them when finished. The two are happy that their business combination landed them in Woodstock, which Leber called "a great town." Nordbrock hopes that people will look beyond the Square to discover their store just north of Lake Avenue. "The best design plan," Leber said, "comes from all different locations." | This company is leading the charge for reusable packaging - Fortune Posted: 12 Jun 2019 02:07 PM PDT  "Zero-waste" packaging may seem like an oxymoron, but that's the vision of a new company working to create a sustainable ecosystem of goods for consumers and manufacturers. The New Jersey-based company, Loop, is leading the charge to create a world in which consumers buy products, but don't have to throw away the packaging. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, landfills received 29.4 million tons of containers and packaging in 2015. Loop blends the traditional milkman model with the convenience of online shopping by delivering products in durable containers (developed by brands) that are then returned to Loop to be cleaned, sanitized and used again. Shoppers can choose from a list of 41 household brands—from Clorox to Hellmann's Mayonnaise—and find those durably-packaged products at Loop's two U.S. retail partners Kroger and Walgreens. "In Loop, instead of the consumer owning the package, the consumer borrows the package and the package is always property of the manufacturer," said Loop CEO Tom Szaky. Szaky heads Loop, which launched its operation in Paris, France earlier this year, in addition to his other eco-friendly company, TerraCycle. Szaky says Loop is building a circular shopping system that not only benefits the planet, but makes packaging a financial asset to the producers. "The beauty is, I don't have to have you believe in my products—they're already the world's best products," Szaky said. "I don't have to ask you to shop at a new store—it's already like the stores you are shopping at. All I'm really asking you is: Would you like that in disposable or durable?" Loop launched its U.S. pilot program on May 21 and has racked up roughly 60,000 sign-ups nationwide, said a company rep. The company's pilot program received about 15,000 sign-ups across the Mid-Atlantic region and has 45,000 sign-ups on its waitlist for cities where Loop has yet to launch. | Obituary: Joan Noonan | Obituaries - Chinook Observer Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:35 AM PDT  LONG BEACH — Joan Peggy Noonan, 89, passed away June 8, 2019, at Circle of Life in Long Beach, Washington. Joan was born in Chinook, Washington on Dec. 23, 1929, to proud Swedish parents Lenore (Nelson) and Ted Lundeen. She was a lifelong resident on the Peninsula. She attended Chinook Elementary School, graduated from Ilwaco High School and attended beauty school. She worked as a hairdresser, clerk at Ilwaco Bakery, and Milton York candy shop. She married and later divorced Bill Dillabaugh (daughter Diana) and Dan Noonan. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and always looked forward to visits from her daughter Diana and grandsons. She enjoyed going for drives along the beach and visiting with people, especially after church service coffee hour. She often paused in the middle of conversation to point out the simple beauty of birds singing at her window. She always saw the good in others and appreciated the simple things in life. She never missed her weekly hair appointment with Donna Beller and was proud to show off her hairdo to anyone and everyone. She was a member at Chinook Evangelical Lutheran Church and she also attended Ocean Park Lutheran Church. She was a faithful woman of God. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bess Sanders. She is survived by many friends and family who miss her dearly. Her daughter, Diana Scott (Jim); grandsons, Tyler Scott (Amy) and Trevor Scott; daughter, Myra Guisasola and granddaughter Julie; sisters, Linda Kemmer and Beverly Jenstrom; nephew, Jeff Kemmer (Andrea) and great nephew, Otto and great niece, Sunny; nieces, Janine Kemmer, Greta McDougal, Kim Smith, and Terese Roberts; many nieces and nephews from the Noonan family; and close friend Dorthy Richards and Donna Beller (cousin). Special thank you to Andrea and Vince Noonan at the Circle of Life and their daughter, Jennifer Noonan. And thank you to the Golden Sands assisted living.
