(NEW YORK) — The Dr. Bill Neches Heart Camp for Kids, a program for children with heart diseases, is just like your typical summer camp.

There's archery, crafts, canoeing and even some fishing. But perhaps its greatest activity is helping kids with heart diseases feel less isolated by introducing them to other children like themselves.

For guest speaker Madeline Morris Collins — also known as Miss West Virginia — the camp offered a chance to show the kids that a heart defect doesn't have to stop them from achieving their dreams.

"As a kid, it feels like a weakness," Collins said. "But the older I became, the more I talked about it and announced it and realized that there were so many more people like me who wanted to talk about it and who wanted to support me — made it more of a strength."

Collins was born with tetralogy of Fallot, a rare condition caused by a combination of four heart defects at birth. At 6 months old, she underwent her first of three open-heart surgeries, and she will need more in the future to replace her heart valve.

The heart camp is associated with the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. While there, Collins canoed, rock-climbed and, of course, danced. She said she loves to dance. But if she overexerts herself, she loses feeling in her right leg from a lack of blood flow, she says. That loss of feeling then works its way up to the rest of her body until she's forced to stop.

But those stops are only temporary, she says — her passion is not. She's trained for more than 20 years and now dances at numerous parades in Walt Disney World.

The physical scars left from the surgeries haven't stopped her, either.

When Collins entered the Miss West Virginia preliminaries, she had to put on a swimsuit. It was a reminder of how different she looked.

"I have a massive scar down my chest," she told the audience of campers with heart conditions. "That's not what most pageant people are used to."

She said that photographers and people within the pageant world told her to hide it, put makeup on it or edit it out in pictures.

"I always told them 'no' because our scars are so cool and they tell our story of what we've been through," she said. "It kind of embraces this whole story that we share with the world."

That hit home with camper Elexa White, 19, who was born with a hole in her heart and now has a surgery scar. She declined to have her scars edited out in her yearbook photo.

"I love having it shown because it's something that makes me different," White said. "It's something that makes me stronger than you are because I had heart surgery."

Call it a paradox: a weakness that's a strength.

"It is a little bit of a paradox because I'm not a pageant girl, but yet I'm Miss West Virginia," Collins said. "I love to be active, even though I have this heart condition. And so I think through all of that, I learned that it's my biggest strength."

E. Jean Carroll accuses Donald Trump of sexual assault - Vox.com

Posted: 21 Jun 2019 11:30 AM PDT

On Friday afternoon, New York magazine published an excerpt from a memoir written by E. Jean Carroll in which the noted columnist describes being raped by Donald Trump in a department store dressing room in the 1990s. Carroll is at least the 22nd woman to step forward on the record with an account of an unwanted sexual advance or other encounter with Trump.

Carroll explains in the excerpt that she didn't come forward sooner out of fear that she'd be attacked, threatened, and smeared by Trump and his supporters. Trump has denied the accounts of all of the other women. A White House official told New York that the accusation is "completely false."

The accusations include rape, a threat of rape, unwanted groping, being kissed without consent, and being walked in on naked. Here are the accusations made by women who have come forward publicly under their own names.

6) Temple Taggart

In 1997, when Taggart was 21 and Miss Utah, Trump introduced himself to her by kissing her directly on the lips — something she thought was "gross," she said. (New York Times)

12) Natasha Stoynoff

When Stoynoff, a former People magazine reporter who covered Trump in the early 2000s, was at Mar-a-Lago to report a feature on Trump's first anniversary with his wife Melania in 2005, Trump pushed her against a wall, kissed her, stuck his tongue into her mouth, and said, "We're going to have an affair," she said. The 22-year-old gets inspiration for her cosmetic creations from other artists as well as everyday life and the world around her.

Having seen an American designer post a Coca Cola piece, Adele decided to put a Scottish twist on it.

Speaking exclusively to The Scottish Sun Online, she said: "I saw the Coke design and thought it was really cool.

"Obviously, I'm Scottish and Irn-Bru is iconic, so I thought I'd do that.

"I just gave it a try and it turned out really good."

Had the design not met her expectations, Adele wouldn't have made it public.

The visual merchandiser is seriously self-critical when it comes to her designs - which can take her up to four hours to create.

She said: "I'm a perfectionist. If it's not perfect, I won't post it. I judge my work so much."

The Kirkcaldy lass is a self-taught artist, and has been sharing her designs online since 2017.

And she says her creative hobby has worked wonders for her mental health.

Adele said: "I was doing graphic design at college and by the third year I just wasn't enjoying it.

"It was badly affecting my mental health and really getting me down.

"I started doing makeup to distract me and it was really therapeutic.

"I could sit down and create something and just forget about everything else."

Adele then launched her Instagram page and began posting her looks.

She now has more than 75,000 followers but when she started out, she kept it quiet from those she knew about her work for fear of getting ridiculed.

She said: "I didn't tell anyone I knew about it for the first couple of months. I thought it was embarrassing and I was worried they'd make fun of me.

"I never thought it would get to this point."

But Adele has gone from strength to strength, with her designs picking up more attention and her mental health improving.

Since starting out, she's made lots of friends through her work and has become more confident.

She's got so much makeup that she's planning to give some away to her followers.

Adele's incredible looks range from animals to space, with lots more in between.

She said: "My favourite ones were probably the octopus and the frog, as they were the first really detailed designs I did.

"The spider design has been mentioned by quite a few people too."

Although she'd love to work as a makeup artist full, Adele is relaxed about taking her hobby further.

She said: "If i could get it as a job it would be perfect. I'd be doing something that I love,

"But if it doesn't work then its not meant to be.

"I'm just getting out as many looks as i want right now and if there's opportunities that come along, I'll take them."

'The Bachelorette': Why Hannah B. Didn't Want To 'Look Glam' All The Time While Filming - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: 22 Jun 2019 11:14 AM PDT

Before Hannah Brown was the Bachelorette or on The Bachelor, she was Miss Alabama.

Being Miss Alabama was a special time in Hannah B.'s life. According to her, her physical health had never been better and she "really came into [her] own" during that time. "It was the best time in my life," she told Women's Health.

But it was also a stressful time for Hannah B. The morning after she was crowned Miss Alabama, she woke up with "three huge bumps on [her] forehead and little bitty bumps all over." At 23 years old, and the day after winning Miss Alabama, Hannah B. began to suffer from acne.

Hannah Brown's struggle with acne

"I just felt so insecure taking a ton of pictures and being around all these beautiful girls with clear skin, thinking my skin used to look like that," she said.

She tried everything until there was just about only one treatment left: Accutane.

"I actually started it right before I auditioned for The Bachelor. I think back on myself during that time and going through the audition process. I told casting, 'You might not want me on your show because I have acne, I'm on Accutane, and my skin might get worse before it gets better,'" she said.

The casting folks at The Bachelor obviously didn't mind because she started filming shortly after. Bachelor fans might remember Hannah B.'s struggle with her skin during Colton Underwood's season. She says she made a point to only wear makeup when she was on a date with Colton or at a cocktail party. Other than that, she let her skin breathe.

Though she tried her best to not let her acne affect her self confidence while filming The Bachelor, Hannah B. says some days were easier than others.

"As much as I hoped it wouldn't, my bad skin really affected my journey on The Bachelor. It was always in the back of my mind. I couldn't focus on my conversations with Colton. I was only thinking, do I need to powder my face? Do I have too much makeup on? Will he notice that I'm broken out? I joke that I talked more about my acne struggles on the show than I did about my relationship struggles with Colton," she said.

Why Hannah Brown made a point to not be glammed up all the time 'in front of the guys'

Today, Hannah B.'s skin is doing a lot better. And her confidence is better, too. But her struggle with acne definitely affected her outlook on physical beauty.

When she became the Bachelorette, she knew she didn't want to have full-glam hair and makeup all the time around her contestants. She wanted them to see how she actually looks.

"Even though my acne was under control while we filmed my season, it was important for me to not always look glam in front of the guys. I didn't want to hide any part of myself from the man that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, so I wanted them to see what they were getting," she said.

'The Bachelorette': Hannah Brown Opens Up About Her Struggle With Acne - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Hannah Brown's never been lax about her skin. Growing up, she washed her face twice a day (a third time if she went to the gym), and never went to bed with her makeup on. For most of Hannah's life, her skin was crystal clear.

Then, when she turned 23, she began to suffer from acne.

"I started getting these little bumps everywhere. I thought I must have used the wrong makeup, or it was from stress, or my period. But it never went away. And I tried everything: prescription topical treatments from my dermatologist, microdermabrasion, facials, all the laser treatments, birth control, spironolactone, Minocycline. It would get better for a few days then come right back. Nothing was working," she told Women's Health.

When she won Miss Alabama in 2017, her acne got even worse. Her skin issues started to affect her confidence.

"My acne really set me back while I was Miss Alabama USA. I was supposed to look like this beauty queen, but I had acne that I couldn't get under control […] I just felt so insecure taking a ton of pictures and being around all these beautiful girls with clear skin, thinking my skin used to look like that. I definitely let my acne get into my head during that competition.," she said.

The treatment that helped Hannah Brown clear up her acne

Acne is different for everybody–what worked for Hannah may not work for you. But the treatment that finally started to do the trick for Hannah was Accutane.

"I had tried everything else, so going on Accutane was really my last option. I actually started it right before I auditioned for The Bachelor. I think back on myself during that time and going through the audition process. I told casting, 'You might not want me on your show because I have acne, I'm on Accutane, and my skin might get worse before it gets better,'" she said.

Hannah started filming The Bachelor when she was still on Accutane, so her face hadn't cleared up yet. In fact, Hannah almost didn't go on The Bachelor because of her acne. Ultimately, she decided to not let her skin issues dictate her life.

But having acne when she was on The Bachelor wasn't easy.

Because she was on Accutane, she had to let her skin breathe most of the time. She only wore makeup when she was on a date with Colton Underwood or at a cocktail party.

"I would use Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation because it was full coverage and would stay put. Then I loved the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder. That was my lifesaver. I kept it with me everywhere I went," she said.

How Hannah's skin is doing now

By the time Hannah became The Bachelorette, her skin had mostly cleared up. Of course, pimples still pop up here and there, but Hannah doesn't stress about her skin as much as she used to.

"It's funny because my first night as The Bachelorette I had a huge pimple pop up on my face out of nowhere. And there were a few other times during filming that I'd get a bump here or there. But that's life. Now, when I do have a flare-up, I just use Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment to dry it out and call it a day," she said.
