TOMS RIVER - Ulta Beauty will be part of Ocean County Mall's redevelopment, joining Homesense and fitness center LA Fitness.

The beauty retailer is expected to open in 2020 in the lifestyle portion on the Oak Avenue side where the former Sears store was located.

"We're thrilled to welcome Ulta Beauty to Ocean County Mall," said Erin Barbato, the mall's director of marketing and business development, in a statement. "Their offerings are fabulous for both women and men and I know our customers are going to love shopping there."

Ulta Beauty, which has eight stores in Monmouth and Ocean counties, offers cosmetics, fragrance, skin care products, hair care products and salon services.

So far, LA Fitness and Homesense, a home decor discounter owned by TJX Cos., have signed up too. A new restaurant, BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, is expected to open early next month.

Ocean County Mall is in the midst of a large renovation project that began after Sears closed in 2018. Simon has demolished the vacant Sears store and is building a "lifestyle center."

The 104,000-square-foot Sears store is being replaced with 97,679-square-feet of retail space, along with a new mall entrance on the north side of the building and new landscaping.

It calls for the construction of two buildings, separate from the main mall. LA Fitness will be in a 34,000-square-foot building. The gym will feature cardio areas, studios with group fitness classes, free weights, a swimming pool and personal training.

An adjacent building would have five tenants, in spaces ranging from 2,850 square feet to 28,000 square feet.

Besides the new entrance, Simon also wants to build two additions to the mall building

One addition would have three shops, ranging from 2,335 square feet to 2,840 square feet. The other addition would have two spaces for tenants, one at 3,100 square feet, the other 6,248 square feet.
